The Experience Gift - Fire Cooking Workshops and Vouchers

Home Blog The Experience Gift - Fire Cooking Workshops ...

There is a particular kind of person who is impossible to buy for. They do not want more things. They have a drawer of gadgets they never opened. But they are curious, they like proper food, and they would genuinely enjoy learning something with their hands.

That is who our workshops are for, and it is why we sell them as gifts as much as bookings.

What a Workshop Actually Involves

It is a hands-on day, not a demonstration. You will handle knives, break down real carcasses, build and manage a fire, and cook over it properly rather than watching someone else do it. Then everyone sits down and eats what they have made, which is the point of the whole thing.

People arrive expecting a cookery class and leave having learned something closer to a way of thinking about meat - where it comes from, how it is put together, why the cut you have been buying for years is the wrong one for what you were trying to do. There is a fuller account of the day in what happens at a Game and Flames workshop.

Everyone arrives slightly nervous about the knives. Everyone leaves wanting to do it again.

Who It Suits

Confident home cooks who have hit a ceiling and want to understand meat properly. People who have started stalking or shooting and realised they have no idea what to do with the animal afterwards. Anyone who likes cooking over fire and wants to stop guessing.

No experience is needed. We teach from the beginning, and a complete novice will get as much from the day as someone who has been cooking for thirty years - often more, because they have less to unlearn.

How the Vouchers Work

If you are buying for someone else, a voucher removes the awkward problem of picking a date on their behalf. You buy the voucher, they choose a workshop and a date that suits them.

It also solves the other gifting problem, which is that experience presents often arrive as a printout of a booking confirmation. A voucher is a proper thing to hand over, and the recipient gets to look forward to it rather than being handed a fixed obligation in their diary.

Buying for a Group

Workshops work particularly well for groups - a milestone birthday, a stag party that would rather do something than drink through it, a team that has run out of ideas for away-days. We run private group sessions where the whole thing is built around your party.

It tends to land better than the usual options precisely because everyone is doing something real together, and there is a proper meal at the end that the group made themselves.

The best presents are the ones people are still describing to other people months later. A day of fire, knives and a proper meal at the end tends to qualify.
